An American firm will build Taiwan´s first commercial plasma solid
waste disposal system to treat biomedical waste and incinerator fly
ash.
PEAT International Inc. received government acceptance of the project
this month to operate the facility, which will dispose of about 3 tons
of waste per day. The company designed and built the plant over 18
months at the National Cheng Kung University in Tainan City, Taiwan.
PEAT also owns a similar facility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, that treats
industrial and laboratory solvent liquid waste.
The Northbrook, Ill.-based company´s proprietary technology uses plasma
torches to convert waste into a nontoxic synthetic gas, which can
produce electricity and other products.
