In order to operate on a continuous basis, a PTDR-1000 utilizes five operational shifts, with each shift consisting of four employees. One employee would be a shift engineer/control room operator, two auxiliary employees to focus on materials handling (waste receiving/feeding and end product collection) with a final employee’s responsibilities including field oversight and supervising the co-generation operations (if applicable).
In terms of consumables a PTDR-1000 system requires electricity, water, pre-heater fuel, caustic (inside the scrubber) and plasma torch electrodes.
The PTDR-1000 is cost competitive with many other treatment methods and other emerging technologies such as autoclaves, as its average costs per ton (assuming the system is located in the USA) are approximately $415 per ton, which includes fixed and variable costs.
The PTDR-1000 system’s ability to process feedstock on a cost effective basis is the result of integrating lessons learned from its proof of concept facilities along with utilizing “off-the-shelf” sub-systems that significantly lower operational costs.
